The Cheapest Birthday Cake!

Last Saturday, my family celebrated my birthday over dinner. It's just another excuse to over-eat, since my family meets for meals regularly. Sis suggested Zhou's Kitchen at Far East Square, which serves a-la-carte-buffet. The food and service were not bad! Since we were all full to the neck, no one suggested after-dinner cakes and coffee. My whole family's not crazy about birthday cake-cutting anyway.

There's nothing very exciting about celebrating birthdays anymore once we hit 30? But I must say turning 35 is a turning-point for me. This year, I have a new driving licence, will have a new baby, and our first landed property. My hubby jokes that he had foresight to bid for auspicious "35" as our car plate number. I am deeply aware of how God has blessed my life, ever since he first called me to Him when I was 7 years old. At that time, I was just an ignorant primary one kid who knew nothing about Christianity, and my parents were then Buddhists. I had a vivid dream that someone brought me to the foot of a brightly glowing cross in the middle of a field, and I knelt before it praying. I think that was my first encounter with the Holy Spirit!

Oops, sorry for digressing. =p Lately I have occasional cravings for Polar sugar rolls, so we drove to the petrol kiosk after dinner to buy one. At supper time, we found a make-do candle and sang the birthday song, just for the fun of it. It's the simplest and cheapest birthday cake I've ever had and I loved it!

Done Deal, Sob!

Very quickly, we found a buyer for our beloved apartment. "Mdm L" was very interested on her first viewing two Saturdays ago, and spent considerable amount of time combing through every room and corner. She made an initial offer that day, but it was way below our expectation. Within the next few days, she upped her offer price by more than 10%, although it still fell short of our base-price by 20 grands.

She came by with her hubby for a second viewing on Friday night, 2 May 2008, armed with her cheque book. Her hubby loved the place as well and so we sat down to negotiate. We could tell that she really appreciates the house, especially the roof garden. She shared that every morning, when she drives past Bartley Road, she would look up at my apartment and tell herself she wants to move in here. It's the sunrise she loves, apparently, and my roof garden can't offer any better sunrise-watching spot. Perhaps she prayed hard about it (she's a fellow Christian too), and perhaps God put an impression in our hearts that she's the right buyer. We were quite happy to entrust our apartment to her. Mdm L was so pleased she even offered to let me stay here until my confinement period's over, before handing over the keys.

We bought the apartment on 2 May 2005, and moved in on 1 May 2006, and on 2 May 2008 we sold it! That's really fast, and I feel I haven't enjoyed every corner of my home to the fullest. Last night hubby and I spent some time having ice-cream at the roof terrace, enjoying the night breeze. Oh how we're really gonna miss this home! This is a picture I took with my handphone camera when I woke up this morning. Doesn't quite do justice to the view, so I promise myself I shall get up early one of these Saturdays and shoot better photos from my roof terrace.....
